Slaves of Gor

-Kajira: this means slave girl -plural is kajirae. La means “I am” so the words “La kajira” translate to “I am a slavegirl.” Saying this is a makes it instantly and legally so.

“Ten kajirae,” he said. This word was the plural of ‘kajira’, which was one of the words, the most common one, for what we were. It means ‘slave girl’, ‘slave woman’, ‘she-slave’, that sort of thing.” Dancer of Gor

“La Kajira,” said the girl clearly, “La Kajira.” Elizabeth Cardwell had learned her first Gorean. “What does it mean?” she asked. “It means,” I told her, “I am a slave girl.” Nomads of Gor

-Kajirus: this is the male slave -plural is kajiri, a word which is also is used for male and female slaves together. They would say “Lo kajirus” meaning “I am a slaveboy.”

“I was barefooted; my only garment was a short woolen, sleeveless tunic; on both the back and the front of this tunic was sewn a large block letter, the initial letter of the Gorean expression ‘Kajirus,’ which means a male slave.” Assassins of Gor

-Remember: Females: kajira singlular -kajirae is plural. Males: kajirus is singular -kajiri is plural. Male and female slaves all together is a plural and also kajiri.

-Sa-fora: this literally means “Daughter of the Chain,” or “Chain Daughter” in Gorean; another word for the female slave. Accordingly En`Sa-fora would then mean “first daughter of the chain” or simply “first girl.”

“In brief, the word sa-fora means “Chain Daughter” or “Daughter of the Chain”. The word kajira, on the other hand, is by far the most common expression in Gorean for what I am, which is, as you have doubtless surmised, a female slave.” Witness of Gor

“Kajira is perhaps the most common expression for a female slave. Another frequently heard expression is Sa-Fora, a compound word, meaning, rather literally, Chain Daughter, or Daughter of the Chain.” Nomads of Gor

-Bond-maid: slaves of the North. They call kajirae “silk girls” in a disparaging manner as if the kajirae were merely pets, because they consider themselves more hard working. They are more brazen than the typical kajira and commonly serve feast style from their feet as they go back and forth, but contrary to popular belief they do still kneel before the Free. Kajirae usually call them “high-farm girls” disparagingly meaning they think they are like country bumpkins.

“Look!” cried Pudding. “A silk girl!” The expression `silk girl!’ is used, often, among bond-maids of the north, to refer to their counterparts in the south. The expression reflects their belief that such girls are spoiled, excessively pampered, indulged and coddled, sleek pets, who have little to do but adorn themselves with cosmetics and await their masters, cuddled cutely, on plush, scarlet coverlets, fringed with gold.” Marauders of Gor

‘High-farm girls!’ she whispered, as she passed the bondmaids of Ivar Forkbeard. In the south the southern slave girl commonly regards her northern counterparts as bumpkins, dolts from the high farms on the slopes of the mountains of Torvaldsland; she thinks of them as doing little but swilling tarsk and dunging fields; she regards them as, essentially, nothing more than a form of bosk cow, used to work, to give simple pleasure to rude men, and to breed thralls.” Marauders of Gor

-Thrall: male slaves of the North that tended to work the fields, or tended the fires; manual labor for the Free. They used to be sacrificed by the Rune Priests but have since been considered unworthy for the sacrifice.

“Men in the fields wore short tunics of white wool; some carried hoes; their hair was close cropped; about their throats had been hammered bands of black iron, with a welded ring attached. They did not leave the fields; such a departure, without permission, might mean their death; they were thralls.” Marauders of Gor

-Mul: this is a word of the Priest Kings which means human slave. They are fed Mul-fungus (a tasteless fiborus vegetable like manner) four times a day, kept completely shaved, and must bathe in washing-booths that are described like showers twelve times a day called “Duty of the Twelve Joys.” At their final meal they are allowed a sprinkle of salt on their mul pellets -and often times they may even fight and kill one another for the salt.

In the Nest,” said Misk, “the expression ‘Mul’ is used to designate a human slave.’” Priest Kings of Gor

~Barbarians: these are slaves from Earth, thought to the natural slaves as they are from the slave planet. Since most Low Castes do not know that Gor is a planet, thinking of their world as a flat disk, these slaves are swiftly taught to speak Gorean and are commanded not to mention their origins. Instead it is thought that they are from barbarian lands, and are ignorant of civilized society. Some slaves use this word disparaging towards these women. Goreans consider anyone that does not speak The Language as “barbarian.”

“To the Goreans it is always, simply, The Language, as though there were no others, and those who do not speak it are regarded immediately as barbarians.” Priest Kings of Gor

“Kamchak looked in puzzlement at the riders, and they at him. In Gorean, one of the riders said, ‘She is a barbarian. She cannot speak Gorean.’” Nomads of Gor

~White Silk: this means that the slave is a virgin. That is all; it does not mean she must actually wear white, though white is commonly associated with virgins on Gor.

“Among slaves, not free women, these things are sometimes spoken of along the lines as to whether or not a girl has been “opened” for the uses of men. Other common terms, used generally of slaves, are ‘white silk’ and ‘red silk’, for girls who have not yet been opened, or have been opened, for the uses of men, respectively.” Dancer of Gor

-Glana: this is a term for virgin; an unawakened girl who has no real concept of her sexuality.

“The buyers were also informed that I was `glana’ or a virgin. The correlated term is `metaglana,’ used to designate the state to which the glana state looks forward, or that which it is regarded as anticipating. Though the word was not used of me I was also `profalarina’, which term designates the state preceding, and anticipating, that of `falarina,’ the state Gorean’s seem to think of as that of being a full woman, or, at least, as those of Earth might think of it, one who certainly is no longer a virgin. In both terms, `glana’ and `profalarina,’ incidentally, it seems that the states they designate are regarded as immature or transitory, state to be succeeded by more fully developed, superior states, those of `metaglana’ or `falarina.’ Among slaves, not free women, these things are sometimes spoken of along the lines as to whether or not the girl as been `opened’ for the uses of men. Other common terms, used generally of slaves, are `white silk’ and `red silk’, for girls who have not yet been opened, or have been opened, for the uses of men, respectively.” Dancer of Gor

–Metaglana: a girl that has become aware of her sexual passion, and is eager to experience but has not technically done so.

~Red Silk: this means that the slave has been opened for the use of men -not a virgin. It does not mean she has to actually wear red as there are many colors for silks. I cover some of the traditional colors in another class on attire.

-Profalarina: a slave that has been opened technically, but has yet to blossom into a full awareness of her sexuality; may still retain some inhibitions and unsure about her femininity or sexuality.

-Falarina: a girl with the pitted passions and fires of a fully sexually aware woman without inhibitions.

~Tower Slave/House Slave: primarily domestic servants, or even a woman’s slave. They may be virgins, and are commonly belted; but not necessarily so on either count. These slaves exist for the reasons of domestic duties, and tend to kneel the position of Tower a closed knee, wrist crossed version of kneeling.

“The position of the tower slave, in most cities, is very similar to that of the pleasure slave. The major difference is that the tower slave, whose duties are commonly, primarily, domestic, kneels with her knees in a closed position, whereas the pleasure slave, in a symbolic recognition of the fuller nature of her bondage, and its most significant aspects, kneels with them in an open position.” Blood Brothers of Gor

~Pleasure Slave: a slave specifically trained to the pleasures of the men. Not only as just a sexually responsive slave, but trained and taught, usually through a Slaver’s house or pens, to be exquisitely pleasing and absolutely obedient. They are taught how to walk, speak, and please in all ways and manners as well as in the domestic and mundane duties of the household.

“A good deal of the training of the slave girl, surprisingly, to my naive mind, was in relatively domestic matters. For example, the Pleasure Slave, if she is trained by a good house, must also be the master of those duties commonly assigned to Tower Slaves. Accordingly, they must know how to cut and sew cloth, to wash garments and clean various types of materials and surfaces, and to cook an extensive variety of foods, from the rough fare of Warriors to concoctions which are exotic almost to the point of being inedible.” Assassin of Gor

~Bath Girl: these are girls kept in the lavish bath houses on Gor. Their hair is usually cropped short, and they wear nothing but a towel and a chain plate collar starting their name, pool, and price. They are often excellent swimmers, and experts in the Gorean bathing process of the three rubbings -something we discuss at length in Gorean Bathing class.

“‘Are the girls who attend to the baths during the day as beautiful as it is said?’ I inquired. The bath girls of Turia are almost as famous as those of Ar.” Nomads of Gor

~Below Deck Girl: These are the girls that are shipped in the hold of a ship. They are shaved to control lice. Usually the most beautiful, desirable slaves are kept on deck. To be a below-deck girl is a derogatory statement.

“We had then been permitted to ascend to the deck, to empty the wastes and seepage. After this we had been permitted to clean ourselves as we could, with sea water and brushes. The deck is kept clean by the girls in the deck cages. The girls in the deck cages are permitted to keep their hair. The hair of the below-deck girls, mercifully, is shaved off; indeed, our body hair, too, was shaved off, completely. These precautions prevent, to a great extent, the nesting of ship lice. After we were cleaned we were leashed and exercised for a few minutes on the deck. Then each of us, for the remainder of our time on deck, the precious half of an Ahn, was chained in a kneeling position, our hands before our bodies.” Slave Girl of Gor

~(Deck-)Cage Girl: slaves found most beautiful and desirable are kept on the decks of ships instead of in the hold with the rest of the cargo. They are allowed to keep their hair, but are not permitted clothing, and are used to please the sailors; on display by day -hauled out and used by night.

“I looked at her. She was auburn-haired, and, like all the slave girls on the Clouds of Telnus, whether cage girls or below-deck girls, stripped; girls are not permitted clothing on a slave ship. She was sitting with her knees drawn up in the tiny cage. She could not completely stretch her body.” Slave Girl of Gor

~Chamber Slave: chamber slaves are those slaves kept by the Priest Kings in stone cells, to service the ones who actually find their way to the Nest. Since there are no doors to the cells, scanners implanted in the portals recognize the brain patterns of the slaves and prevent their escape by delivering punishment to any who dare to try to cross the portal.

“You may do with me what you please,” said the girl, turning to face me. “As long as you are in this room I belong to you.” “I don’t understand,” I said. “I am a Chamber Slave,” she said. It means that I am confined to this room, and that I am the slave of whoever enters the room.” Priest Kings of Gor

~Coin Girl: considered one of the lowliest slaves on Gor. She is sent to the street with a coin box around her neck or chained to her sirik, in order to solicit men on the street. She must not return without coins or she may be beaten if she does not return with enough coins to please her owner.

“It is called the Street of the Writhing Slave. It is dark and narrow, and not far from the wharves. It has its name from the fact that most renters of, and dealers in, Coin Girls in Victoria, keep their kennels on this street. The girls of the day, designated by a coiled whip pressed against their left shoulder, wearing their neck chains, with the attached bell and coin box, are sent into the streets in the late afternoon and expected to return before the nineteenth Ahn. And woe to the girl who does not return with a jangling coin box on her neck chain! Some girls, once designated, and locked in their accouterments, kneeling, weeping, scratch even at the insides of the stout gates of their masters’ houses, hoping to be sent into the streets early, that their chances of turning a profit for their master, and thus avoiding a beating or torture, may be enhanced. Such a lenience, however, is seldom shown to the girls, as it is against an agreement binding the entrepreneurs engaged in this trade. Sometimes the girls are sent into the streets with their hands braceleted behind their backs. Sometimes they are sent into the streets with their small hands free, that they may use them to please their master’s customers. Sometimes a new girl is sent into the streets on a leash, with an older girl, that she may learn how a Coin Girl behaves. I recalled that once, long ago, when I had purchased, and freed, Miss Henderson, we had encountered a Coin Girl on the way back to my inn. “Get away, you filthy thing,” had said Miss Henderson. “Disgusting! Disgusting! Terrible! Disgusting!” she had said. I smiled. The girl had been half naked, in a brown rag. I had thought she had been superb. To be sure, Coin Girls are usually regarded as the lowest form of Gorean street slave.” Guardsman of Gor

~Debt Slut: a free woman who is sold to slavery to pay for her or her family’s debt, or is kept in the Inn to work as a slave until they pay off their debts or have a benefactor pay them. Many debt sluts are sentenced to slavery and work the mills, laundries, and kitchens as a penal function of Gor.

“She lived from men, following them and exploiting them,” I said. “She was a debtor slut. I paid her bills and thus came into her de facto ownership, through the redemption laws.” Renegades of Gor

~Display Slave: usually a very beautiful slave used to display wealth, beauty, chained together to show off an owner’s status. Thought to not yet be a utilized as a ‘full’ slave, or perhaps used to be a Lady of high standing. These slaves exist for the sole purposes of showing off how rich and important their owner is to have slaves simply to be adorned and displayed.

“‘She is already branded,’ said the auctioneer, ‘but has served primarily as a display slave, and not a use slave.’ He then turned her, still keeping his hand in her hair, so that those on his left might better see her. ‘Accordingly,’ he said, ‘she is not yet fully broken to the collar.’ There was laughter from the crowd. He then turned her so that those on his right might better see her. ‘In my opinion,’ said he, ‘it is now time for this girl to learn the various uses to which a slave can be put.’ ‘Yes!’ shouted more than one fellow. He then, as she gasped, bent her back a bit more, turning her again toward her left, so that she was presented exquisitely to the men. ‘Does she not appear ready for taming and heating?’ inquired the auctioneer.’” Rogue of Gor

~Exotics: these tend to be rare and expensive slaves that are bred for a specific need or purpose. Sometimes they may even have a deformity like a club foot, or it may result in an unexpected result like elongated ears.

There are various types of “exotics” bred by Gorean slavers, all of whom are to be distinguished from more normal varieties of bred slaves, such as Passion Slaves and Draft Slaves. Exotics may be bred for almost any purpose, and some of these purposes, unfortunately, seem to be little more than to produce quaint or unusual specimens. Ho-Hak may well have been one so bred.” Raiders of Gor

-Passion Slaves: bred specifically for their beauty and passion, usually after a specific trait like red hair, or the shape of lips, or even an eye color. They are bred in the slave houses and kennels of Gor specifically for the pleasures of men. These are born and raised on Gor, and are never Barbarians.

“…I wondered if Vika might be a bred slave, a Passion Slave, one of those girls bred for beauty and passion over generations by the zealous owners of the great Slave Houses of Ar, for lips such as Vika’s were a feature often bred into Passion Slaves; they were lips formed for the kiss of a master.” Priest Kings of Gor

-Draft Slaves: used to pull carts and carry the free on palanquins.

“A free woman, robed in white, veiled, was being carried in a sedan chair by four draft slaves. Beside the chair, on either side, afoot, walked a girl. Each was veiled but bare-armed. From the fact that their arms had been bared to the gaze of men I knew they were slaves.” Beasts of Gor

-Poison Slaves:

it is possible to breed a girl whose saliva will be poisonous; such a woman, placed in the Pleasure Gardens of an enemy, can be more dangerous than the knife of an Assassin. -Assassin of Gor

-Dancers: many passion slaves are bred for dancing as well; some lineages going back a thousand years.

She is surely a bred passion slave,” I said. “Surely the blood line of such an animal go back a thousand years!” “No! No!” said a man, rapt, not taking his eyes from the slave. I regarded her, in awe. “She is trained of course,” said a man. Only to obviously was this a trained dancer, and yet, too, there was far more than training involved. Too, I speak not of such relatively insignificant matters as the mere excellence of her figure for slave dance, as suitable and fitting as it might be for such and art form, for women with many figures can be superb in slave dance, or that she must possess a great natural talent for such a mode of expression, but something much deeper. In the nature of her dance I saw more than training, her figure, and her talent. Within this woman, revealing itself in the dance, in its rhythm, its joy, its spontaneity, its wonders, were untold depths of femaleness, a deep and radical femininity, unabashed and unapologetic, a rejoicing in her sex, a respect of it, a love of it, an acceptance of it and a celebration of it, a wanting of it, and of what she was, a woman, a slave, in all of its marvelousness.” Magicians of Gor

-Slaves who have no idea of men: expensive slaves bred in the House of Cernus who are kept ignorant of the idea of men. Raised by women in a pleasant garden they never even lay eyes on a man, until such a time she is drugged and removed from the garden. She is kept unconscious until she is revived “commonly to find herself unclothed in a cage of male slaves set up among the tables” of an Ubar’s feast. They commonly go mad and are slain in the morning, but if they are not driven mad they may seek out a woman who will explain to them their new fate.

Then in what way are they exotic?” I asked. Ho-Tu looked at me and grinned. “They know nothing of men,” said he. (…) He laughed. “I mean they have been raised from the time they were infants in these gardens. They have never looked on a man. They do not know they exist.” (…) “They are raised in complete ignorance,” said Ho-Tu. “They do not even know they are women.” Assassin of Gor

~Field Slave: used to cultivate the soil, and work the fields.

“‘It means one is made welcome in Tharna,’ said the girl, ‘and this means one is sent to the Great Farms to be a Field Slave, to cultivate the soil of Tharna in chains until one dies.’” Outlaw of Gor

~Fighting Slave: gladiatorial or bodyguard type slaves, usually male slaves or criminals. Sometimes female slaves are forced to fight as well with steel claws fastened to their fingers. Often these slaves are eventually forced to fight or are fed to beasts for the sport of the gladiatorial games.

“Many slave fights are little more than bloody brawls, which free persons are pleased to witness. Kenneth and Barus, on the other hand, who bet on such matters, took these fights seriously. They had, over the years, devoted time and intelligence to the training and development of fighting slaves. The stables of the Lady Florence of Vonda had been, as a result of this, particularly in the last four or five years, unusually successful in the stable bouts. Indeed, Kenneth and Barus had accumulated small fortunes as a result of their efforts in this area. Gorean free persons of high caste, of course, tended to take little note of these matters.” Fighting Slave of Gor

~First Girls: when multiple girls are on one chain, the owner will sometimes appoint a girl to be in charge. This way, the owner does not need to deal with the petty squabbles of the slaves. There can be a tier of first girls in a large house, but ultimately they are only first girls over the same chain or in the same dwelling. She could simply just be the current favored girl, or at other times the owner will allow the slaves to sort themselves out and the hierarchy is decided by the strongest or most clever girl who can be cruel and petty, or intelligent and just depending on the slave’s personality. They are often allowed to wear a talmit in their hair that shows their authority, and carry a switch as they have switch rights over the other girls. Most would never make a Barbarian girl a first girl.

“‘I am Ute,’ Ute told them. ‘I am first girl among the work slaves. You will obey me. You will be treated precisely as the other girls, neither better nor worse. If you do not obey me, exactly and promptly, in all things, you will be beaten.’” Captive of Gor

~Flute Girl: are able to play the single or double flute, and tend to make work more pleasant for the workers. Aside for her musical talents, she is often rented out for feasts or parties, and will provide music as well as sexual favors to the guests.

“Here and there upon the walls, among those working, were silked flute girls, sometimes sitting cross-legged on flat stones, rather even with or even below the heads of workers, sometimes perched cross-legged on large stones, above the heads of workers, sometimes moving about among the workers, sometimes strolling, playing, at other times turning and dancing. Some were also on the lower level, even on the Wall Road. ‘Many of the flute girls seem pretty,’ said Marcus. ‘Yes,’ I said. To be sure, we were rather far from them. ‘It is a joke of Lurius of Jad, I gather,’ said Marcus, ‘that the walls of Ar should be torn down to the music of flute girls.’ ‘I would think so,’ I said. ‘What an extreme insult,’ he said. ‘Yes,’ I said.” Magician of Gor

~Galley Slave: slaves kept to row on galley ships, the round ships. They are fed on crusts, and the onions and peas. Fighting vessels, however are rowed by free men.

“I had made one innovation in practices common to Port Kar. I used free men on the rowing benches on my round ships, of which I had four, not slaves, as is traditional. The fighting ship, incidentally, the long ship, the ram-ship, has never been, to my knowledge, in Port Kar, or Cos, or Tyros, or elsewhere on Gor, rowed by slaves; the Gorean fighting ship always has free men at the oars.” Raiders of Gor

~Gambling House Slave: beautiful slaves that keep the food and drink coming, provide companionship to the betters, and encourage the flow of betting, even to the point of recklessness.

“Astrinax,” said Menon, “is seeking slaves for a gambling house. It is one of several on the Street of Chance. In such a house, there are commonly slaves, beautiful slaves, to wait upon the men, to serve drinks and food, to contribute to the décor and pleasantness of the setting, to mingle with the patrons, to encourage betting, even to the point of recklessness.” Conspirators of Gor

~Kettle Slave/Kettle & Mat Girl/Pot Girl: a “kettle” girl or “pot” girl one that was used for domestic services, primarily in serving food and kitchen duties. If one of their duties was also sexual service, the girl would be referred to as a “mat” girl as well.

“I did not see fit to sell her that some ubarates had been sold to purchase a single slave. To be sure, the slave so purchased is yet but a slave. She is owned as much, as fully, as the simplest kettle-and-mat girl.” Explorers of Gor

~Last Girl: a term used to denote either the newest girl on a chain, or the least of all the girls.

“I sat back from the fire, watching them closely. It was now late at night. Grunt had shortened the coffle by two collars and chain lengths. I had put the new girl in Margaret’s place, after Priscilla and before the Hobarts. This was the position of ‘Last Girl,’ which, fittingly, not counting the Hobarts, she would occupy, being the newest girl on the coffle.” Savages of Gor

~Love Slave:

it is said, that for every slave girl there is a Love Master, rendering her, as his love slave, completely and helplessly abject in her slavery. A love slave is expected to perform perfectly in all tasks and duties. With no slave must a Master be more firm and strict than with his love slave. ” The slavery in which a love slave is kept is an unusually deep slavery. She must serve him with perfection which would stun and startle other girls….” Beasts of Gor

~Luck Girl: acts as a sort of mascot on a ship, usually reserved for its captain but can be shared with the crew, sometimes as a disciplinary measure.

~Lure Girl: a slave that is used as a decoy, a distraction. Tavern owners use them to bring men into their establishment. Boat captains use them to lure men and shanghai them as crew.

“She was the slave who, earlier, had been used by Yellow-Knives as, in effect, a lure girl, one used to distract or, say, entrap a warrior.” Blood Brothers of Gor

~Paga Slave/Tavern Slave: a slave owned by a Tavern who serves the customers drinks and pleasure as they wish. Her sexual use comes with the price of the cup.

“To be sure, on this world it was the case that men apparently had their pick of beautiful, helplessly arousable slaves, and for as little as a meaningless coin. I had learned much from Ute and Inge. I had heard of the paga taverns, the rent booths, the brothel restaurants, and of the streets, in which one might find coin girls, their coin box on a chain locked about their neck, and mat girls on their master’s leashes. I recalled the dancing slave I had glimpsed in the paga tavern in Laura. Inge had told me that a modest coin would buy her use, and that the common paga slaves came with the price of a drink.” Captive of Gor

~Private/Personal Serving Slave: a private slave assigned or owned by the person she obeys. Her duties may include running errands, general cleaning, or caring for personal belongings.

One of the decrees of Marlenus, uttered at his victory feast, yesterday evening, to rounds of drunken cheers and applause, had been to decree a two-hort, approximately two and one-half inch, heightening of the hemline in the already rather briefly skirted livery of female state slaves; this morning I supposed this decree would be adopted by the private slave owners of Ar as well; indeed, I noted that already the effects of the decree were evident in the livery of the girls I passed in the halls. Assassin of Gor

~Pierced-Ear Slave: Piercing the ears of slaves is a common Turian custom which became popular after the fall of Turia to the Wagon Peoples; such a girl is permanently marked as the most abject of slaves.

“….on Gor a free woman would not consider having her ears pierced. Among slave girls, however, ear piercing inflicted upon them by the will of their masters is becoming widespread on Gor; one might say it is gaining considerable popularity among masters which accounts of course for its growing frequency in the female slave population of the planet; it is a custom which derives,I am told from the city of Turia, which lies in Gors southern hemisphere, an important manufacturing and trading center. A girl with pierced ears is of course either a slave or a former slave. If she is a former slave, her papers or manumission had best be in perfect order. More than one freed woman, because of pierced ears, has found herself again on the block, again reduced by strong men to the helpless state of bondage.” Slave Girl of Gor

~Message Slave: used to send secret messages. The girl’s head is first shaved and then a message is tattooed on her head. The girl is commonly illiterate. Her hair is allowed to grow back. She will then be sent to the person who is to receive the message. She is also usually given to the recipient to keep as well. Later, her head will be shaved again and the message read.

‘The message girl is ready,’ said the man who wore the green of the physicians. He turned to the man beside him; he dropped the shaving knife into the bowl, wiped his hands on a towel. The girl, bound, knelt between the guards. There were tears in her eyes. Her head had been shaved, completely. She had no notion what had been written there. Illiterate girls are chosen for such messages. Originally her head had been shaved, and the message tattooed into the scalp. Then, over months, her hair had been permitted to regrow. None but the girl would know she carried such a message, and she would not know what it might be. Even those for a fee delivering her to the house of Samos would have considered her only another wench, mere slave property. I read the message. It said only ‘Beware Abdul.’ We did not know from whence the message came, or who had sent it. ‘Take the girl to the pens,’ said Samos to the guards. ‘With needles remove the message from her scalp.’” Tribesman of Gor

~Feast Slave/Table Slave: specially trained slaves, rented to serve at banquets and special occasions.

“It was now two months since we had graduated from the school. It had been, on the whole, a wonderful two months. In the beginning we had had to serve at a feast or banquet only every third or fourth day, or so, but, as our reputation had spread, our engagements had multiplied dramatically. It had now become necessary for the slave masters of Aemilianus to insert open dates in our schedule, that we might remain fresh and rested. Even as of now our services had to be arranged several days in advance. There had apparently been a readiness or need for crews or teams of competitively priced feast slaves in the city. Aemilianus, with that sense of business which seemed to run in his family, had been sensitive to this.” Kajira of Gor

~Camp Slave: owned by authorized merchants, who hold contracts for certain seasons or campaigns. The girls are kept within the military camp and travel with it. The girls are rented out to the soldiers at nominal fees.

“‘There,’ said Hurtha, pointing, ‘there are the pens for camp girls.’ He had indicated a fenced enclosure, within which were various smaller enclosures, and some cages. In such areas, there was probably more than one in a camp of this size, public girls are kept, slaves for the pleasures of the soldiers. The Gorean seldom does without women. Such girls are usually supplied in groups by contract slavers, for the course of given campaigns. They may be used in their enclosures or, more commonly, they are sent to the tents of the men who rent them, usually for the night. In the morning they return to their masters.” Mercenaries of Gor

~Secret Slave: slaves that everyone believes is a Free Woman, but is secretly a slave to her Master. Usually when she is found out the Goreans do not take likely to being tricked. It is thought that eventually she will be unable to conceal her true nature.

An occasional exception is the secret slave whom most believe to be still free, her true relationship being concealed, at least for a time, by her master’s will, from the public. This deception is difficult to maintain, of course, for as the woman grows in her slavery, it becomes more and more evident in her, in her behavior, her movements, her voice, and such. Also she soon longs for the openness of bondage, that her inward truth may now be publicly proclaimed, that she may now appear before the world, and be shown before the world, as what she is, a slave. Sometimes this is done in a plaza, or other public place, with a public stripping by her master. It is dangerous, sometimes, to be a secret slave, then revealed, for Goreans do not like to be duped. Sometimes they vent their anger on the slave, with blows and lashings, though it seems to me the blame, if any, in such cases, is perhaps less with the slave than the master.

~Seduction Slave: used to lure free women into compromising situations so that the women can be made slaves by the couching laws. There are also female seduction slaves used to capture men for the chain gangs of mines, fields, or ships.

“‘The handsome, charming, suave, witty Milo,’ said the fellow, ‘is a seduction slave.’ ‘A seduction slave?’ she wept.  ‘Yes,’ he said. ‘He has much increased my stock of slaves.’  She tore at the net, in tears, but was helpless. ‘Had you, and your predecessors, not been so secretive, so much concerned to conceal your affairs with a slave, Milo’s utility as a seduction slave would have doubtless been much diminished by now. On the other hand, the concern for your reputation and such, so natural in you free women, almost guarantees the repeatability, and the continued success, of these small pleasant projects.’ ‘Release me!’ she begged. ‘Some of Milo’s conquests are used in my fields, and others in my house,’ he said. ‘But most, and I am sure you will be one of these, are exported, sold out of the city to begin your new life.’ “My new life?’ she whispered. ‘That of a female slave,’ he smiled. She struggled, futilely.” Magicians of Gor

~Self-Contract/Self-Enslaving: A Free Woman contracts to be an experimental slave for a period of time ranging from one night to a year. Her documents will contain a specified termination date. It is noted though that once she is a slave she is a full legal slave. Other Free Women can declare themselves as a slave -and once uttered it can not be revoked.

“They had declared themselves slaves. The slave herself, of course, once the declaration has been made, cannot revoke it. That would be impossible, for she is then only a slave. The slave can only be freed by one who is at the time her master, or, if it should be the case, her mistress.” Explorers of Gor

~Mill Slave: owned by a mill; these slaves are generally considered lower then even the kettle and mat girls.

“These were girls of the sort sometimes referred to as female work slaves. It is a very low form of slave, indeed, perhaps the lowest. Seldom can they aspire even to the status of the kettle-and-mat girl. They do not bring high prices. They are usually sold in multi-item lots in cheap markets and are usually purchased to be used in such places as the public kitchens or laundries, and the mills. From these applications, they are sometimes referred to, naturally enough, as “kitchen girls,” “laundry girls,” “mill girls,” and so on. These particular girls, it had been conjectured, had been obtained from markets in the north, where prices are often cheaper. They were now being brought south and east, probably, from their shearing, for work in the mills.” Kajira of Gor

~Kitchen Slave: slaves that work in the kitchens; prepares food and sometimes even brings it to the table, but not as elegantly as a feast slave is taught to do.

“I heard a movement near us. I turned and saw a female slave, in a rep-cloth kitchen tunic, stained with food, approaching, bearing a tray of fruit with a flask of wine. She was followed by a guard. The slave knocked timidly on the door of the cell. The girl sprang up from the divan, wiped oil from her wrists on a towel, threw back her hair, and stood regally in the center of the room. “Enter,” she said. The guard unlocked the door and the kitchen slave, deferentially, entered, her head down and placed the tray of fruit and wine on a small low table near the divan. She then, head down, began to back lightly away.” Assassin of Gor

~Side-block Girl: slavegirl sold for a fixed price from the side block of a slave auction house, instead of auctioned from the main block; used disparagingly.

“Side-block girl,” in the argot of the slave girl, like “pot girl” and “kettle-and-mat-girl,” is a term of disparagement. It must be admitted there is more prestige in being auctioned from a major, or central, block than there is in being casually purchased from a side block.” Savages of Gor

~Silk Slave: male “pleasure slave” or silk slave, is usually a extremely handsome, well-formed male slave, that is specially trained to serve the sexual appetites of a Free Woman.

“The next level of slaves is that of male silk slaves. These usually bring higher prices, on the whole, than female pleasure slaves. This, it seems to me, is purely a matter of supply and demand. Female pleasure slaves, given slave raids and the sackings of cities, are relatively plentiful on Gor. Male silk slaves are not. The explanation for this, I think, is reasonably clear. Gorean males seldom make good silk slaves.” Fighting Slave of Gor

~Rent Slave: slaves that are rented to anyone for any purpose.

There are paga slaves,” I said, “who must please their master’s customers in his tavern. There are the girls who staff the public kitchens and laundries. There are rent slaves, who may be rented to anyone for any purpose, short of their injury or mutilation, unless compensation be rendered to the master. There are state slaves who maintain public compartments, and work in offices and warehouses. There are girls in peasant villages, and girls on great farms, who cook and carry water to the slave gangs. There are beauties who are purchased for a man’s pleasure gardens. There are other girls who work in the mills, chained to their looms.” Beasts of Gor

~Stable Slave/Stable Slut: slaves who works in the stables. The female stable slaves are occasionally shorn to sell the hair/keep discipline, and to keep the males content. Used for farm labor.

~State Slave/Public Slave: a state slave girl is in any of the cities of Gor; her duties in the apartment cylinders are largely domestic and is usually responsible for keeping the public plazas, fountains, and streets clean.

“I looked down at the street. It seemed dirty. This was not usual for Ar. Usually, once a week, the streets are swept and washed down. This is usually the responsibility of those whose buildings face the street, the larger avenues, squares and plazas, and such, being cleaned by state slaves.” Kajira of Gor

~Village Slave: much the same as a state slave; but serving a different hut in the village each day.

“I am putting you out into the village as village slave,” he said. “At night you will be confined in a sleen cage. During the day you will feed on what men will throw you. Each day you will serve a different hut in the village.” Slave Girl of Gor

~Whip Slave: A slave with “whip permissions” over other slaves. Usually used to make sure slaves perform and as disciplinarian.

“The next lot was an interesting one, consisting of two slave girls, clad in the skins of forest panthers, from the northern forests of Gor, and chained together by the throat. They were driven up the steps by a whip slave and forced to kneel at the center of the block. (…)To the amusement of the crowd it took the whip slave, and two others, to strip the biting, scratching forest beauties.” Assassin of Gor

~Work Slave: slave is a category of slaves consisting of field slaves, stable slaves, etc.

“Female work slaves, field slaves, stable slaves, and such, like kettle-and-mat girls, are usually considered the lowest of slaves. At any rate, they commonly bring the lowest prices in the markets.” Magicians of Gor
